Are you looking for a great way to be active in your library and community? How about pumping up your resume/college applications? Or even connecting with other young adults who share your love of reading? Do you have ideas on how to make the library more teen-friendly? Or programming ideas?

Then Jr Friends of the Library is perfect for you-- the newest level of Friends of the Library geared just for Jr. and High School students!

What to expect:

monthly meetings (Third Thursday @ 4:00 pm)
volunteer hours (4/month --- hey there is at least 672 hours in a month; only asking for a few!)
skill building (leadership, team-work, job skills, etc)
to be the voice of Matagorda County teens
access to advanced copies of books
membes-only parties (pizza anyone?!)
$5 dues (in January)

Tayshas is Texas Library Association's annual reading list for high school students. The full list can be found here. 2013 marked the beginning of the Tayshas Stars -- the top ten titles from the list. The only book we do not have (at this time) is Master of Deceit: J Edgar Hoover and America in the Age of Lies by Marc Aronson.

Find them in the Young Adult section!

We will begin promptly at 8:00. If you are late you will not be allowed to enter.
The test will be administered by a member of the BCPL Staff.
Answers will be mailed in after the test. A Kaplan representative will contact each participant and their family to discuss the results of the test.

Books to Movies 2013

With the success of the Twilight Saga and Hunger Games, is it no wonder that teen books are being filmed? 2013 will continue to provide (many) YA authors with film adaptations of their books. Keep an eye out for the following films, and be sure to check out the book! A few more movies, including Hunger Games: Catching Fire, have not released the official trailer.
